Topic 1: The Perfect Storm of Social-Local-Mobile
Last year social media was all the rage, but 2012 will mark the widening gap between businesses that are harnessing social and the power of word of mouth advertising versus those who are going to miss the boat. This (seminar/program) will focus on the new consumer and how their use of tools to tune out and filter away traditional forms of advertising, is creating a whole new opportunity for customer service marketing. Key takeaways will include several free or low cost tools any small business owner can use to build and monitor their brand reputation on social media, local search, and mobile phones.
Presenter 1: Tobin Slaven
Tobin is the Co-Founder of Mindboom Media and Mobile Marketing of Maine, which merged with Dream Local Digital in 2012. In joining the Dream Team, Tobin will take on the role of Creative Director, Marketing Strategist, and Account Manager. He will also lead research and development of the best tools and strategies to serve the small business community. His own self-stated mission is to save Main Street – one small business at a time, with practical information about how social media and mobile technology is changing the rules of how we do business, and giving small business owners an unfair advantage over the national brands and big box store competition.
Tobin’s focus in on lead generation and getting more business from the web using 3 main channels: 1) social media – because social is fast becoming the new search; 2) Video – because YouTube is now the second largest search engine and video is the number one way to drive engagement; 3) and Mobile – because the cell phone is the one channel where you can reach everyone, where they live, work, and play. Tobin is married to his beautiful wife Martina, while living and working from Bangor, Maine where they are raising their family of four teenagers (and one fur child). FLYTE SCHOOL: Convergence of Marketing & PR – Integrated Communication Strategies & How to Use LinkedIn to Grow Your Business (4/10/2012)
Topic 1: Convergence of Marketing & PR – Integrated Communication Strategies & How to Use LinkedIn to Grow Your Business
Driving more sales to your business involves more than just a pretty brochure or a well-designed logo. By analyzing every touchpoint with current and prospective customers, you can strengthen your brand. Creating a strategic plan with your unique brand story as its foundation, you will be able to better target your audiences and engage with them more effectively. It’s called the “Circle of Engagement,” and it’s the new way to think about building your business. It’s no longer about ‘marketing to your customers,’ it’s about “engaging with your customers.”In this dynamic session, Nancy Marshall will talk about engaging with customers, prospects and the media to help tell your story to strategically targeted audiences. She will talk about creating “personas” which replicate the profiles of your most desirable customers. Using the “long tail of the web,” you can target niche audiences that align with your business and build a tribe of followers.
Nancy Marshall, “The Maine PR Maven,” has been doing PR in Maine since 1982 when she worked at Maine Public Broadcasting then at Sugarloaf as Director of Communications. In 1991 she started Nancy Marshall Communications, which today has 14 employees doing integrated marketing communications planning and implementation. Her agency is known for “The Marshall Plan,” a strategic planning process that produces a detailed road map to help companies and organizations reach their marketing goals.
Inspired by hearing Shel Holtz at a meeting of the Society of American Travel Writers in Manchester, England in November of 2007, Nancy launched a blog at www.maineprmaven.com and has continued blogging since then. Her agency also publishes “The NMC Report,” a monthly e-newsletter on the intersection of PR and social media. NMC is on Facebook and Twitter regularly, and Nancy admits to sometimes getting personally compulsive about FourSquare. Her agency consults with clients on how to use social media to communicate their key messages and build their brands.
Nancy’s talk will focus on building relationships and building ‘tribes’ of brand ambassadors through social media. She is a strong advocate for using social media to complement actual face-to-face relationships, not to replace them. She is also a strong advocate for building relationships for personal and professional growth and sheer happiness in life. Social media starts with the word “social,” and Nancy has centered her life around socializing for personal and professional reasons, both in- person and online.
